UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Saltire Foundation invests in Scotland's human potential to find, fuel and spark the next generation of Scottish business leaders. We are an active community of visionary individuals, world class supporters and outstanding alumni (Saltire Scholars and Saltire Fellows) working together to create a more dynamic, vibrant Scottish economy.

Our Undergraduate Internship programme gives students with huge potential and ambition - who may not otherwise have access to such opportunities - the chance to experience the working environment of highly successful firms or high growth entrepreneurial companies at home and abroad.

The opportunity of a life time is fully funded, enabling talented students to realise their potential through:

  • Challenging work experience - increasing their skill set and knowledge of the commercial world

  • Global perspective - over 70% of our placements are overseas and those in Scotland are with globally minded and entrepreneurial companies

  • Superb networking opportunities - with senior executives while interning and as a life-time member of the Alumni community

  • Greater independence and leadership development - working in a commercial environment and often living away from home

  • Increased ambition and confidence- fuelled by their Saltire experience, network and peers

  • Getting involved - leadership extends into their local community and Saltire Scholars are typically active within their communities at home and on placement

By providing undergraduates with leadership opportunities and a global mindset, the Saltire Foundation aims to help Scotland grow and develop into a significant player on the international stage.

Online applications for summer 2013 will be accepted from penultimate year undergraduate students from 1-22 November 2012.

Types of Internships

The Saltire Foundation is committed to sourcing the high-quality internships for our Scholars.

Internships are sourced in a variety of fields such as engineering, science, marketing, management, finance, arts management, video production, law, business development, tourism and hospitality, and international relations.

Locations

In 2012 we had 70 international internships across 5 continents and 22 internships in Scotland.

Host international cities included Boston, Cape Town, Chicago, Dubai, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Manila, New York and Shanghai.

Select internships were located within Scotland, as we are able to source some really amazing opportunities with top Scottish entrepreneurs. Scotland-based interns benefit from networking opportunities throughout the summer.

Placement & Leadership Development

2013 Scholars will be required to attend a Leadership Development Day on 1 June.

The 8-week placement will take place from 10 June- 2 August 2013.

During the placement Saltire Scholars will have the opportunity contribute to a project of commercial significance and in most cases network with high-level executives.

Saltire Scholars in large cities may also have additional opportunities through speaker series that will provide further leadership and networking opportunities.

Lifelong Network

As a Scholar or a Fellow, your programme with the Saltire Foundation is not a once-off experience. The Saltire network is a growing community in Scotland that represents Scotland's next generation of leaders.
