Ryder is a commercially successful Design Director with global experience, co-founder of two start-ups and is a Green Beret. He is passionate about creating and leading teams to innovate disruptive businesses focused on transforming people's lives, globally.
The 1st start up, Lightweight Medical, developed and licensed medical devices and delivered sustainable product design consultancy. Ryder trained and led the design team to deliver over 20 commercialized products ranging from heart failure monitors and nosebleed clips, to timber windows and oil prospecting equipment. Their own products include the pioneering Ambulance Child Restraint (ACR), now in every Scottish ambulance and recently launched in the US.
The 2nd start up, Onzo, was spun out to deliver home energy behaviour change products and 'Big Data' applications. There, Ryder led the design team to deliver their flagship product the Onzo Smart Energy Kit. This secured a first order for $10M and is reducing energy consumption by 8% in over 100,000 homes. A second variant secured an initial order for 700K units. Latterly he worked with major energy utilities including SSE, Essent, and Enel, developing services that use energy data analytics to solve their major business issues. This included an Adaptive Heating Control System, securing a $700K grant.
A fervent adventurer, Ryder won his Green Beret serving with 29 Commando Royal Artillery. He has worked as a white water raft guide and ski escort, and loves self-guiding multi-day trips ski touring, canoeing, hiking or biking.
Ryder is currently a Fellow on the prestigious Saltire Fellowship program, recently completing an intensive Executive Education Program at Babson College - Ranked #1 for Entrepreneurship in the world.
