Meridith has a background working in the investment industry where he developed strong leadership and analytical skills. He was selected to join the graduate programme at Alliance Trust (the UK's largest investment trust) where he gained diverse business experience, including working as part of a small team to launch the Asset Management subsidiary and carrying out economic research for the investment teams. Subsequently Meridith went into a management role within Alliance Trust Savings, leading and developing a team and spearheading an initiative to automate internal systems, which led to large cost savings and risk mitigation. His excellent performance convinced management to support a move to the Investment Management section. Here he worked as an investment analyst in the Asian Equities team, where he specialised in the giant telecom companies throughout Asia.
As a keen skier, Meridith spent several years prior to University working as a ski instructor around the globe, and was British University ski racing champion in 2004. He holds a BSc from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Investment Analysis (with distinction) from the University of Stirling. He has also completed several professional examinations, including the CFA level 1, the Investment Management Certificate and the SII derivatives administration exam (received award for top mark in the UK). His work in investment management involved rapid comprehension of industry and company fundamentals, and these skills are complemented with the experience of working with start-up companies in Boston through the Saltire fellowship programme. Having finished four months executive education at Babson College he has come away with a global perspective on business and is looking to apply these skills to enhance the growth of Scottish businesses.
